You can quickly link to the facebook of your Friends and Pets from here, arrange order in order of importance and browse your family through it.

If people from your family are Skype users (a free Internet telephone service), you can enter their SkypeIDs in their profiles, and you'd be able to dial direct from your facebook page, chat with them, or create conference calls/chats of the whole family. Skype is also available from the profile page.
